For over 25 years, The Whitworth Trust has supported vulnerable, precariously-housed young women in Cambridge — offering shelter, hope, and a pathway to independence.
The Whitworth Trust takes its name from Whitworth House — a hostel that for over 25 years has provided supported residential accommodation for vulnerable, precariously-housed young women in Cambridge. Whitworth House can be home to up to 15 residents, all aged between 16 and 25.
A major part of the Trust's funds are also used to help vulnerable, precariously housed and homeless women in Cambridge more generally — including women at any stage of life, with or without children.
What We Do
Grants for education and training — travel fares, course fees, art materials, work clothes, and computer equipment.
Welcome packs of bedding and linen, WiFi, and items that make the house feel like a real home.
Funding social activities — BBQs, pizza evenings, cinema trips, and bonfire nights to build connection.
A general kitty for individual needs — from move-on essentials to a bike or Duke of Edinburgh equipment.
Our commitment extends to raising money and awareness for homeless, vulnerable, and precariously housed women across Cambridge. We've developed links with local organisations and registered charities to broaden our impact.
Partners include Cambridge Aid, Cambridge Women's Aid, Jimmy's Cambridge, and the Cambridge Churches Homelessness Project (CCHP). We also have connections with the 'It Takes a City' initiative and its Women's Homelessness Action Group.
