After a long period of deep uncertainty the Trust is overjoyed that Orwell's recent bid has been successful and the County Council have awarded them with the contract to maintain Whitworth House as a hostel for young women.
The Trust is delighted for the residents and is confident that Orwell's vision for the House keeps alive what the Trust has always prioritised: housing for young, vulnerable women in a female only setting with excellent support. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who campaigned to keep Whitworth House open, from residents' petitions to our then Chair Ruth Jackson on local TV, from Councillors to cake bakers, so many individuals, churches and groups leant their support. Orwell's belief in the House's unique value and vital work in our area has carried us to this much brighter future. Thank you!
